I use Slack. How do I set up the integration to receive notifications directly in Slack?

Email notifications are a great way to keep up on new referrals, recently submitted scorecards, and take-home tests that are ready to be graded, but sometimes the clutter of the modern-day inbox can transform a helpful email into just more noise. That's why we're thrilled to announce our integration with Slack, which allows you to opt into important Greenhouse notifications directly to a Slack channel of your preference.

To start, Job and Site Admins can select My Info by clicking their name in the upper-right corner of Greenhouse.

On the next page, you'll be able to configure the integration by clicking the Add to Slack button.

Next, select the Slack team where you would like to receive these notification. If you see an error message that the integration is not supported with the chosen team, contact your Slack administrator to adjust your team's integration settings.

On the following page, you can select which channel should receive the notification. We strongly suggest that you choose Slackbot, which will send the message to you privately, but you are able to select any public or private channel that you have permission to write to at the moment. Please note that posting to a public channel could allow other members of your Slack team to see information they wouldn't normally have access to in Greenhouse, so use caution.

After it's successfully enabled, you will receive an email confirmation and a passive message in the chosen Slack channel that the integration was added. The My Info page will note the channel you're posting notifications to, and you can press Disconnect to remove it altogether. You can also Edit which notifications should go to Slack so you're only receiving Slack alerts for the jobs and notification types that are most important to you.

When an action triggers a Slack notification, you will then receive a message in Slack that contains the candidate's name and a link to their newly-created profile.

If you've opted to get approvals in Slack as well, any Job or Offer approval that requires your attention will appear with buttons that allow you to Approve or Reject without ever leaving Slack! If the approvals are sent to any channel but Slackbot, any private fields will be stripped out so sensitive information isn't accidentally shared with everyone in the channel.

Please Note: The first time you approve a job or offer, you'll need to click an additional link in Slack so we can re-authorize your account and make sure Greenhouse can confirm you have permission to take this action. Don't worry — you only have to do this once!

The integration can be turned off altogether on your Team's Slack preferences if you would like to remove it from all of your users. In this case, any users with the integration enabled will receive two emails the next time a notification is triggered -- one alerting them that the integration has been disabled and one which includes the information about the new candidate who applied.

it would be great if notes where im @ mentioned from candidate profiles would appear in my slackbot channel so i can reply directly from slack to the person sending the message.

Would love to throw in another suggestion:

Slackbot notifications about upcoming interviews with @ mentions tagging the interviewer (or posted with slackbot). This would really help my team with time management and organization, since we are always buried in Slack but not always in Greenhouse!

    Hi Aaron,

Thanks for writing in and happy to submit this feedback to our product team!

As a workaround, we recommend using calendar alerts that can be set up in your external calendar to give interviewers a reminder of their upcoming calendar event.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,
    Olivia
